Legendary Mexican singer Paquita la del Barrio, March 14, 2008

In All Posts, Vegas Shows on February 29, 2008 at 4:58 am

Paquita, a performer of ranchera and other musical styles has achieved decades of success, thanks to her sassy lyrics, which take aim squarely at macho attitudes – sometimes with sly humor and a smile, sometimes with aggressive, hard-hitting lyrics – teasing men with her signature catchphrase, “¿Me estás oyendo, inútil?” (“Are you listening, good-for-nothing?”)

She began her career in Ciudad de Mexico in 1980 and has become a staple in Mexican clubs and cantinas ever since.  Her feminist lyrics have earned her legions of female fans, while the campy humor in her performance has made her a cross-over phenomenon with men as well.

Opening for Paquita is Lupillo Rivera, El concierto será iniciado con Lupillo Rivera.

Paquita performs at Rio ’s Pavilion Ballroom at 9 pm on March 14, 2008.  Tickets are $40, $50 and $60 plus taxes and fees and are available at the Rio box office or by calling 702.777.7776.

See A Show In Las Vegas

In All Posts, Vegas Shows on February 3, 2008 at 10:10 pm

It doesn’t matter why you are coming to Vegas, a convention, shot gun wedding, or a much needed vacation, what matters is what you do once you’re here. There are always the obvious sightseeing choices, alluring casino games, and the thriving night life for the more adventurous, but more and more people are forgetting about a huge untapped resource here in Vegas: the shows!

There are shows for every personality, age, and budget, so what’s your excuse? There are hundreds of Las Vegas shows to choose from, everything ranging from comedy to magic to the ever famous Cirque du Soleil entertainment. Just check your mood and wallet and choose from the ever growing list. On the high end of the price scale there are five Cirque du Soleil shows, the comedy of Danny Gans , and the musical Mamma Mia that constantly pull packed theaters and for good reason. Even though Mystere , O , KA, Le Reve, and Zumanity may seem pricey they truly are worth every penny. You will never see another show that will match the creativity, talent, artistic beauty, and technical difficulty of a Cirque show. Mamma Mia is a humorous theatrical journey through the music of ABBA and the impersonations of Danny Gans have earned him the title “Las Vegas Entertainer of the Year”for six straight years, so a few extra bucks are warranted. That is not to say that you have to spend a lot of money to see a great show, after all this is Vegas. There are numerous moderately priced productions as well. The world famous Blue Man Group turns the Venetian theater into a party every night, the Rat Pack is alive and kickin’ at Greek Isles, and magician Lance Burton regularly wows audiences at the Monte Carlo, just to name a few.
