Ortiz-Griffin 2 moves up the card to replace Brock Lesnar’s UFC heavyweight title defense against Shane Carwin, which was postponed until early 2010 due to an illness Lesnar suffered which has kept him out of training camp for nearly a month.
Taking over the main event slot are UFC superstars Ortiz and Griffin. For Ortiz, the bout is an opportunity to make an immediate impact in the 205-pound weight class after an 18 month absence by defeating a fellow former light heavyweight champion. Across the Octagon is Griffin, a fighter looking for redemption against Ortiz after losing a razor thin split decision to “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim on April 15, 2006.
In that bout, Ortiz tore into Griffin at the opening bell, almost finishing the fight with his trademark ground and pound attack. Amazingly, Griffin survived the assault and roared back over the next two rounds, teaming with Ortiz for an instant classic. After 15 minutes, the judges declared Ortiz the winner, but the back and forth nature of the bout made it a natural for a rematch.
In the newly-added co-feature to UFC 106: Ortiz vs Griffin 2, welterweight contenders collide as Josh Koscheck meets Anthony “Rumble” Johnson in one of the most intriguing 170-pound matchups of 2009.
“Koscheck vs. Johnson is a great fight and I give credit to both guys for stepping up and making a fight like this happen,” said White. “The amazing thing about this fight is that both Koscheck and Johnson are world-class wrestlers, but they can also knock you out with one punch. I don’t know where this fight’s gonna go, but wherever it goes, it’s going to be one to remember.”
Winner of the 2001 NCAA Division I National wrestling championship, Josh Koscheck entered MMA strictly as a wrestler, but as he battled his way through the first season of The Ultimate Fighter and up the welterweight ranks, he has evolved into a well-rounded contender with dynamite in his right hand. Owner of UFC wins over the likes of Diego Sanchez, Dustin Hazelett, Chris Lytle, Yoshiyuki Yoshida, and Frank Trigg, Koscheck is well on his way to a world title shot should he get by Anthony Johnson on November 21st.
A junior college National wrestling champion, Anthony Johnson has nonetheless built his reputation in the UFC with his devastating knockout power. Winner of five of his seven Octagon bouts, San Jose’s “Rumble” has ended each of those victories (over Chad Reiner, Tommy Speer, Kevin Burns, Luigi Fioravanti, and Yoshiyuki Yoshida) by way of knockout, making him one of the most feared athletes in the 170-pound weight class.

LAS VEGAS—Nov. 8, 2009—Joey Chestnut became the first-ever Martorano’s Masters Meatball Eating Champion on Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas after eating 50 meatballs in 10-minutes of Major League Eating (MLE) sanctioned competition. The 6.25 pounds of meatballs in 10-minutes set a new world record in the meatball discipline. The contest featured a star-studded field of Major League Eaters and celebrities all vying for a $1,500 first-place prize and title of Martorano’s Meatball Champion.
When asked about the key to his victory, Chestnut quickly pointed to the quality of the meatballs. “The great taste and high quality of the meatballs were evident in every bite,” said world’s #1-ranked Chestnut. “I am honored to have name my forever associated with Martorano’s world-famous meatballs.”
The competition proved to be fierce with Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti finishing a single meatball behind Chestnut’s total of 50 to finish in second place and win $750. 105-pound Sonya Thomas ate 42 meatballs to finish in third place ($500), while rookie upstart Ben Monson ate 38 meatballs to finish in fourth place and win $250. Henderson native Rich “The Locust” LeFevre came out of retirement to compete in his hometown and ate 33 meatballs to finish sixth.
To fully honor and respect cook/owner Steve Martorano’s gourmet meatballs, Major League Eating strayed from conventional competition standards and issued a ‘utensils-only’ rule. The stipulation proved integral as it put an added premium on technique throughout the contest.
“Watching the best eaters in the world eat bowl after bowl of my meatballs was a real compliment,” said Steve Martorano. “It was very important to me that they enjoy the meatballs during the championship and I am proud my meatballs could satisfy the appetites of top Major League Eaters.”
Playboy cover model and new starlet of FANTASY in Las Vegas at the Luxor, Angelica Bridges, also competed at Martorano’s on Sunday. A crowd favorite in her competitive eating debut, Bridges ate 10 meatballs totaling more than a pound of food.
“Angelica should be very proud of herself,” said Mike Antolini of Major League Eating. “She competed in a tough field and held her own. She is always welcome to the Major League Eating table and I hope to see her again at next year’s Martorano’s Masters.”

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin suffered his first lost in the UFC in 2006 and this rematch now against Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Tito Ortiz. Coming off a two fight losing streak, Griffin has a lot to win and a lot to lose when he faces Ortiz for the second time. The Lesnar vs Carwin fight will be rescheduled to a future date in 2010. The final performance will mark the end of her two-year residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace which began on February 20, 2008.

Having seen Rick Thomas at the Tropicana many years ago and then at the Stardust before it was imploded and after moving to the Orleans Casino before closing I can say I have seen Rick Thomas. However after attending an SPCA fundraiser and previewing his new show at the Sahara Hotel and Casino I have to say I am very impressed. The show is flawless, his stage presence and magical illusions have never been better and the Bengal tigers vanish and appear right before your eyes. He combines the illusions with dance and entertaining and touching stories as he shares his story of his dream. You will enjoy every moment from the magic and illusions, the magical rings that he does so well and his magic with birds is fun and amazing. The most important thing that stands out for me is this is a show for the whole family, it’s clean, entertaining and fun and I watched audience members of all ages just having a good time enjoying and amazed from illusion after illusion.

Confirmed, Garth Brooks is coming to Las Vegas. In 2000 Garth Brooks had announced his retirement as he wanted to spend more time with the family, however it looks like Steve Wynn has ropped the big one to fill the prior Danny Gans theater at the Wynn Encore. Details are still forthcoming however it looks like Garth is coming out of retirement and will now become a part of the Las Vegas strip highliners. While Garth has made some occasional concerts and events including recently President Barack Obama’s inaugural events. Welcome Garth!

Three Fridays in a row we have spent at the Studio B Buffet at the M Resort and I must say it is the Best in Vegas for their seafood friday at $25.95. Not only do they have all this wonderful seafood but also a coffee bar, wonderful salad selection and includes unlimited beer and wine. We always request a booth, it runs from 3:30pm-10:00pm, expect to wait an hour or more during peak times but the food is outstanding. Their Crab legs are the best and the selection is presented very nicely and be sure and have the prime rib also featured, it is very nice.

Frank Marino to open his new show at the Imperial Palace Labor Day Weekend. For 25 years Frank was the star of “An Evening at La Cage”, I have seen the show several times over the years and must say each time I enjoy him and the show more and more. I can not wait to see this new show this weekend.
Marino has teamed up with one of Las Vegas’ premier producers, Adam Steck, CEO of SPI Entertainment, to bring this entertainment dream to the Imperial Palace. SPI Entertainment also produces such hit shows as “Thunder From Down Under”, “Louie Anderson: Larger Than Life”, “Human Nature- The Ultimate Celebration of the Motown Sound”, and “American Storm”. Donny and Marie Osmond have been peforming in Las Vegas since September 2008 at the Flamingo hotel and have announced Friday they have renewed their contract for an additional two years. Marie is set to release an album of gospel tunes later this month, and an album of duets with brother Donny in November. Tickets available online.
Don Marrandino, president of Harrah’s Las Vegas revealed on Sunday that he has indeed extended the brother-sister act another two years, through October 2012.
Presented by GansLight Entertainment, the 90-minute extravaganza showcases Donny and Marie’s greatest hits in a multimedia spectacle presented on a custom-designed stage with multiple video screens and a sizeable cast of electrifying dancers. Donny and Marie perform nightly Tuesday through Saturday to sold out crowds.

A new lakefront restaurant offering Farm-to-Table cuisine from chef Jean-David Groff-Daudet will open its doors Monday, July 13th in Desert Shores in Summerlin. Garfield’s Restaurant, named in honor of renowned cricket player Sir Garfield Sobers, is located at The Lakeside Center on Regatta Drive in Desert Shores. Lakeside Center is also home to the bistro and wine shop Marché Bacchus and a Village Pub and Casino. The addition of Garfield’s will round out the dining options at the center by providing a casual, healthy dining spot for the whole family with a front-row view of the lake and its lush greenery, comfortable patio and indoor dining, a full bar and great service.
At Garfield’s, Groff-Daudet plans to follow the Slow Food® movement – a commitment to support local food suppliers, small farmers and ecologically sound food production with the goal of providing the best-tasting, freshest food possible.

Danny Gans has died in his sleep early this morning at the age of 52. His cause of death is not immediately known.

A spokesman from Click2Vegas.com says while Las Vegas ticket sales are reported down they are seeing an increase due to upcoming events such as Taylor Swift, Metallica, U2 and the UFC 98 and 100 events. Activision and Feld Motor Sports, Inc. announced today the championship round of the Monster Jam: Urban Assault National Tournament, taking place at the Monster Jam® World Finals in Las Vegas’s Sam Boyd Stadium this Saturday, where one of nine finalists will be crowned as the new National Champion. Eight of the nine finalists qualified for an expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas to compete in the Monster Jam: Urban Assault National Tournament by winning their regional qualifiers at Monster Jam events during January and February. The finalists will challenge each other using the Monster Jam: Urban Assault game on Wii™.
The tournament consisted of 16 regional qualifying rounds that began back in January and took place at the top Monster Jam stadiums across the country. Players competed on Wii™ gaming platforms in front of thousands of screaming Monster Jam fans. The eight fastest winners have been awarded expense-paid trips to Las Vegas, where they will compete against each other for the national championship in the Monster Jam World Finals at Sam Boyd Stadium. The winner will become the second Monster Jam Video Game National Champion.

Originally created by the owners of New York City’s trend-setting supper club Lotus, and Los Angeles’ swank Sunset Room, V Bar has undergone a sleek remodel from the updated tones of the rich ebony hardwood floors to the edges of the translucent glass walls.

PRVegas.com LAS VEGAS—“Laugh Out Loud” With The Scintas, the popular Buffalo, New York foursome who have been performing in the Shimmer Cabaret at the Las Vegas Hilton since 2007, will end their run on March 14 to tour around the country. The Scintas will be working on their upcoming syndicated television show and performing limited dates around the country.
For more than two decades, The Scintas — Frankie, Joey and Chrissi Scinta and Pete O’Donnell — have entertained audiences nationwide.
“Laugh Out Loud with The Scintas” celebrates its last show March 14. Las Vegas, Nev. – February 3, 2009 – Acclaimed singer, songwriter and performer, Elton John returns to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for his final engagement of his hit show “The Red Piano.”
Tickets to go on sale Thursday February 5th at 10AM PST, and will be available for show dates April 7 -8, April 10-12, April 14-16, April 18-19, and April 21 – 22.
Currently on sale are performances February 3-4, 6-8, 10-11 and Valentine’s Day/Presidents’ Day weekend February 13-15.

Responding to overwhelming demand, the resort accelerated the number of shows presented each year, completing the original commitment in only 18 months. During this time Caesars Palace extended the agreement for an additional 166 shows for a final engagement total of 241.
